Angela Reilly: Flesh Aug 28 2007
Until September 7th ROLLO Contemporary Art gallery
welcomes you for an exhibition called “Flesh” by Angela Reilly. Awarded with a
3rd Prize in the BP Portrait Award in 2006 and Art Exposure – RGI in
2005, this English artist is known for her accuracy which sometimes makes her
paintings look like photographs. Angela Reilly is extremely skilled in
reproducing different tones of flash. But unlike the pink flesh of a Lucian
Freud, Reilly’s bodies are slightly illuminated. And, what seems to be unusual,
the larger the scale is, the more detailed her pictures are. This helps
reproduce not only what the person looks like, but what he or she feels. The
artist believes that portraiture “is a preservation of ones memory not just
preservation of appearance.” The exhibition at the ROLLO Contemporary Art
includes Reilly’s latest oil paintings and charcoal studies. Admission is free.
