Maritime Rites by Alvin Curran Sep 14 2007
September 14th don’t miss the concert called “Maritime
Rites”, by Alvin Curran, a composer from the Providence, Rhode Island. Performed
by the London Symphony Orchestra Brass Ensemble in front of Tate Modern museum
and on a barge on the Thames river, Maritime Rites is a unique show which mixes
sounds of the river, some improvised pieces and music that is traditionally
connected with Thames. The composer Alvin Curran is known for his love to
electronic music and found sounds, which are not usually associated with music
as such. Curran himself will perform at the show as a synthesizer, accompanied
by Evan Parker (playing his saxophone) and Melvyn Poore (tuba). Moreover, the
“Maritime Rites” will be finished with a carillon concert (at St Paul’s
Cathedral). Already presented in Sydney and New York, the concert is likely to
gain Londoners’ favour. The event is free to visit.
