Breaking the Rules: The Printed Face of the European Avant Garde 1900 – 1937 Nov 13 2007
Current exhibition at the British Library, entitled “Breaking the
Rules: The Printed Face of the European Avant Garde 1900 – 1937” explores the
creative phenomenon that took place in European art at the beginning of the 20th
century – “Avant Garde”, along with artistic styles usually associated with it
such as Cubism, Expressionism, Futurism, Dadaism, Suprematism, Constructivism
and Surrealism. The exhibition throws the light on their common themes, impact
on contemporary culture and the artistic interconnection of various European
cities (the main of which are Paris and Berlin) during the period. Among the
exhibits there are literary manuscripts, sound recordings, posters, artists’
books and photobooks, flyers, manifestos and objects from different European
museums and collections. The exhibition is opened until 30 March
2008.
