Anthony McCall at the Serpentine Gallery Nov 30 2007
Even though Anthony McCall started his work in the early 1970s’, his
unusual works are unknown to a larger part of British public. An exhibition at
the Serpentine Gallery is your chance to get acquainted with his masterpieces,
in which he mixes film, sculpture, installation, drawing and performance. The
British artist started as a film-maker and already at that time was notable for
the use of light and fire. He then developed his “solid light” film series –
projections, in which he used beams of light to stress their sculptural
qualities and create varied shapes and forms. However, in the end of the 1970s
he left off his artistic career, and returned to it only 20 years later.
Exhibition at the Serpentine gallery gives an overview of both his early and
later works, and features drawings, photographs and documents from McCall’s
archive. The exhibition is opened 30 November 2007 – 3 February 2008.
