Stella Artois Championships Jun 12 2006
The middle of June, a time between Rolland Garros and Wimbledon tennis tournaments presents a perfect chance for tennis players to stay in form. The week from 12 till 18 June Queen’s Club, Kensington houses Stella Artois Championships – male’s competition attracting top ATP players. They will play on the grass, so it’s a good opportunity to prepare for Wimbledon. Queen’s tennis club is only two stops on the tube from Gloucester Road station, which is next to Rydges Kensington. This year six of the world’s top ten players will contest the Stella Artois Championships. Young Spanish Rafael Nadal, now number 2 in world rating, but always a problem for number 1 Roger Federer performs on Stella Artois for the first time. Other tennis players from top ten participating in London competition are Ivan Ljubicic (Croatia), Andy Roddick (USA), James Blake (USA), Nikolay Davydenko (Russia) and Fernando Gonzalez (Chile). Lleyton Hewitt (Australia), Andre Agassi (USA) Greg Rusedski (UK) and Tim Henman (UK) are not on the top now, but their matches always attract a significant audience. A spectacular finals day will be completed by a special challenge match between former Wimbledon champions Goran Ivanisevic and Michael Stich, who will meet for the first time ever on grass.
