Cosmopolitan city of London hosts a lot of festivals, representing different cultures. One of them is annual London Mela offering acquaintance with the art and culture of South Asia. This year the festival takes place on Sunday 13 August between 12noon and 8.30pm in Gunnersbury Park, Popes Lane. Highlights include: a European debut performance by Pakistani rock artist Atif Aslam. Nutkhut’s ’Bollywood Steps’ – Bollywood films cliches presented through bhangra, hip-hop, classical Indian dance, and salsa. ’Tabla Blah Blah’ is a collaboration between DJ and broadcaster Bobby Friction and leading Tabla expert Pandit Sharda Sahai. London Flavas - Radio 1’s Bobby and Nihal will present the best in British Asian urban music. There also will be The Grand Trunk Road - a photographic exhibition, devoted to one of the greatest trade routes in South Asia. Other attractions will include Classic Mela, specially commissioned street theatre, and The Kaleidoscope Project for children.
