» Louise Bourgeois at Tate Modern
Date: oct 10 2007
Tate Modern offers you an opportunity to observe works by one of the world’s most respected sculptors, Louise Bourgeois, in her 95th year now. The artist’s career has been long and embraced large part of the twentieth century. Louise Bourgeois worked in different artistic styles, from abstraction to realism, but independently on what style she followed, she has always been very inventive and individual. The exhibition shows more than 200 works created of various materials, such as marble, bronze, mirrors, latex and fabric. With such a variety, it will help you follow her artistic path and understand what influenced her at certain periods. One of the exhibition’s landmarks is the spider sculpture Maman 1999, which was first shown in the gallery in 2000. Themes the artist reveals in her masterpieces are isolation, femininity and sexuality. The exhibition is opened 10 October 2007 – 20 January 2008.

» Angelina’s Star Performance
Date: sep 6 2007
Little girls often dream of becoming ballerinas. But here’s a story of a mouse who dreams of dance career. Angelina Ballerina is a book character created by Katharine Holabird and illustrator Helen Craig. The book was published in 1982, in 2002 there was an Angelina Ballerina TV show produced and finally, there is a ballet show offered by The English National Ballet. But despite the fact that the show is intended for children over 3, one shouldn’t think its something childish and low-quality. The sets, the costumes and the quality of ballet dancing could be compared to the ones you usually expect from a high quality production. Your daughters will like this story of a little mouse who wants to become a ballet star. Angelina Ballerina sets off on tour September 6th and will give more than 100 performances at 20 different venues. The one we offer to you is the New Wimbledon Theatre. Visit the performance until 9th September 2007.

» Rise: London United
Date: jul 15 2007
It is no wonder that such a multicultural city as London is organizing an anti-racist music festival, called Rise: London United. The festival was a great success last year - almost 100,000 people attended the event to see and hear excellent hip-hop, indie, pop, jazz and reggae performances. This year the festival is organised July 15th and features such UK and US superstars as Jamelia, Kelis, The Holloways, St. Etienne, K’naan, Noisettes, Beardyman and the old school band Ska-talites from Jamaica. The event is free and friendly, which makes it extremely popular with people of all races and creeds. In addition to performances on the main stage, there will also be six other stages specializing in particular music styles installed: African Village, Big Cuba Fiesta, Crescent stage, Underground stage, Mela stage and DJ Bus. To make the event a more varied one, there are also children’s play area, fair ground, food, drink and exhibitions provided. The event takes place at Finsbury Park.

» Free Range 2007
Date: may 31 2007
Those who are fond of arts will probably be interested in “Free Range” – the Europe’s largest annual graduate art and design show which takes place for the seventh time in 2007. It is a good way to find out more about the rising stars in design world and buy works of art, which you think are worthy of notice. From 31st May until 23rd July 2007, thousands of UK students who have just graduated from arts and design colleges will exhibit their creations at The Old Truman Brewery, London. It comes as no surprise that the show is popular with students and art connoisseurs alike: the first are attracted by the opportunity of promoting their work whereas the latter (and there were over 100,000 visitors last year) are captivated with the idea that they are present at the birth of new talents. Various items are represented: pictures, photography, jewellery, ceramics, illustrations and many others. It is of course impossible to name all the young talents, but you should definitely see works by Laura Evans and Elin Svensson.

» DIY-TV video course for children
Date: apr 2 2007
Many parents would say that making stars out of common children is next to impossible. However, if you are more optimistic about this, then you should start preparing your offsprings for a glamorous career from their childhood. That does not refer to actors only, but also to filmmakers and producers. Greenwich Picturehouse gives your 11 to 14-year old children a chance to try their talents in video making. The event is called DIY-TV video course and takes place for four days, from April 2nd to 5th during which children will learn how to produce, evolve and shoot a short TV programme (mind that the course features such points as animation and live action). These studies will be guided by experts with lots of experience in this sphere and will close with a special show for the participants’ families and friends. Plus to this, you will get a free DVD with fruits of your kid’s work sent to your house. For grown-ups, this is another chance to feel themselves proud parents. All the equipment for the course is provided so all you have to do is to encourage your children to take part.

» Alegria by Cirque du Soleil
Date: jan 24 2007
When visiting Alegria show that London’s Royal Albert Hall offers to visitors till February 11, you will definitely be impressed by high professionalism of the artists and excellent performances with the fire-knife dancing, handbalancing, aerial high bar, contortionists, trapeze, flying man and what not. Alegria can be translated from Spanish as "jubilation", and as the forms of this state of mind can be different, the themes of the show are different as well.  Those are power and its life through times, evolution of political systems from monarchies to modern democracies, old age and youth… The world of Alegra is combined of foolish rulers, hypocrites and beggars as well as aristocrats, children and clowns who are able to resist the changes that come with time. The performance creator is Guy Laliberté, who is not only a good organizer, but is also a multitalented artist.
