» Anthony McCall at the Serpentine Gallery Date: nov 30 2007 Even though Anthony McCall started his work in the early 1970s’, his unusual works are unknown to a larger part of British public. An exhibition at the Serpentine Gallery is your chance to get acquainted with his masterpieces, in which he mixes film, sculpture, installation, drawing and performance. The British artist started as a film-maker and already at that time was notable for the use of light and fire. He then developed his “solid light” film series – projections, in which he used beams of light to stress their sculptural qualities and create varied shapes and forms. However, in the end of the 1970s he left off his artistic career, and returned to it only 20 years later. Exhibition at the Serpentine gallery gives an overview of both his early and later works, and features drawings, photographs and documents from McCall’s archive. The exhibition is opened 30 November 2007 – 3 February 2008.

» Antony Donaldson at the Rocket gallery Date: aug 14 2007 One of the most curious exhibitions available at London currently is the exhibition of photographs by Antony Donaldson at the Rocket gallery. The British artist got famous in the 1960s’ (especially for his popular imagery derived from advertisements and magazines) and that is why many of his works are filled with the spirit of that time. Another important page in the artist’s life is the period between 1959 and 1968 when his works were shown at the Whitechapel along with the “Young Contemporaries” and “The New Generation”. But the exhibition at the Rockets covers another short period of his artistic life – those are two years when he lived in Los Angeles and was focusing on Art Deco city cinemas. Attracted by the searchlights in the city sky and the images of the cinemas themselves, the photographer made beautiful pictures, which are now displayed for the first time at the Rocket. The exhibition is opened till September 8th, 2007.

» Antony Gormley: “Event Horizon” Date: may 17 2007 Walking along the streets of London, you will probably notice unusual objects on some of the roofs, which have the form of the casts of human body. Don’t be too surprised, as this is the part of the “Blind Light” project by the artist Antony Gormley, known for the sculpture of the giant Angel of the North near Gateshead. These casts can be seen on rooftops and public walkways in the Southbank Centre, King’s College, or next to the IBM building. The main aim of the project is to prompt us to take a new perspective on our surroundings. And if you want to find out more about the artist’s creations, there is an exhibition available at The Hayward Gallery from 17 May to 19 August 2007. The exhibition presents several large-scale installations together with the artist’s new works created in light-infused webs of steel.
