Among the many hotels in Mayfair, The Metropolitan stands out. Sister to the fashionable Halkin hotel, this 155-room property overlooks Hyde Park on London’s prestigious Park Lane. The design brief for The Metropolitan was simple – “start with a clean sheet of paper and design a hotel to meet the needs and desires of the modern traveler”. Interpreting this, United Designers pared away all the non-essential elements of a “traditional” hotel to create The Metropolitan, timeless and yet firmly contemporary – a formula which has brought considerable success since its opening in 1997. Nobu, the restaurant co-owned by Nobu Matsuhisa and Robert de Niro, offers innovative Japanese cuisine with an upbeat New-York style atmosphere while the Met Bar continues to be the place to hang-out for fashionable Londoners.
