Bloomsbury is the WC1 district north of Covent Garden and
south of King’s Cross. The neighbourhood grew around the Georgian
squares built by the Russell family in the 18th century — Russell
Square, Bedford Square, Tavistock Square — and remains one of
Central London’s leafiest areas. The British Museum, University College
London and the Senate House Library give it an academic character; the
literary associations with Virginia Woolf and the Bloomsbury Group still
attract visitors.
The area is one of the most convenient places to stay for rail
travellers: King’s Cross St Pancras is a ten-minute walk or one stop
on the Piccadilly line, with Eurostar services to Paris and Brussels and
national routes to Edinburgh and Leeds. Euston covers the north-west
routes. Russell Square and Holborn stations put the West End and the City
within ten minutes.
Accommodation here leans towards Georgian townhouse hotels around
Russell Square and Gower Street, with a strong cluster of three- and
four-star mid-range properties — better value than Mayfair or Covent
Garden while still inside Zone 1. Below are 29 hotels in Bloomsbury.
