Muswell Hill and Highgate sit on high ground in the N10
and N6 postcodes, north of Hampstead and west of Wood Green. The area is
defined by Alexandra Palace — the Victorian exhibition hall on
Muswell Hill itself — and by the north side of Hampstead Heath,
including Kenwood House and Highgate Cemetery. It’s one of the quietest
residential parts of inner London.
Transport is by bus and National Rail rather than tube: the Northern
line terminates at Highgate, and Alexandra Palace station (Great Northern)
connects to Finsbury Park (Piccadilly line) and King’s Cross in
20 minutes. The N2 and A1 run through for road access. For visitors
attending events at Alexandra Palace, staying locally removes the end-of-
evening transport problem that central hotels create.
Accommodation is limited — this is a residential area, not a
hotel district — but the small independent properties available offer
rates well below equivalent stays in Zone 1. Below are 2 hotels in
Muswell Hill and immediate surroundings.
